Mindy Besaw, Curator at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, presents a closer look at Asher B. Durand’s painting Kindred Spirits, featured in the exhibition Picturing the Americas: Landscape Painting from Tierra del Fuego to the Arctic. Besaw offers viewers clues to decoding details in the work in relationship to the artistic and literary traditions of the United States at the time, and compares them to works by artists from other parts of the Western Hemisphere also featured in the exhibition.
