Yvonne McKague Housser’s Silver Mine, Evening depicts a silver-mining town in Northern Ontario. Spanning a river and built into a hillside, the town seems to slumber; it appears to be abandoned but for the few buildings and houses with lights on. Suffused with a sad and sublime quiet, Silver Mine, Evening is an elegiac meditation on the consequence of viewing the land as an exploitable natural resource.
